Academic Papers

In this paper, I explore and categorize chromatic mediants from several games. I propose the Cadential, Shuttle, Bridge, and Mid-Phrase categories for chromatic mediants and explore a few more specific examples.

The games used for this paper are the following:

  • Hollow Knight (Team Cherry, 2017) - Christopher Larkin
  • Metroid Prime (Retro Studios, 2002) - Kenji Yamamoto and Kouichi Kyuma
  • Metroid: Zero Mission (Nintendo, 2004) - Kenji Yamamoto and Minako Hamano.
  • Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous (Owlcat Games, 2021) - Dmitry V. Silantyev, Mikhail Kotov, Pawel Parepelica, Dryante, and Sergey Eybog.
  • Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo, 2010) - Mahito Yokota, Ryo Nagamatsu, and Koji Kondo.
